October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Many of us know a family member or friend who has battled or is currently battling this complex disease. We would like to show our support by making these 2 projects that provide some comfort during these troubling times.
Our first Project will be a Post-Surgery Heart Pillows. These little pillows are designed to fit under the armpit, providing support after a mastectomy.
We will also be making Port Pillows. When people receive ongoing chemo, they often have a port-a-cath surgically implanted, just under the skin in the chest and they are often right in the spot that can be irritated by wearing your seatbelt in the car. That’s where these little pillows come in handy. They attach to the seatbelt with velcro & relieve the pressure on the port. Ingenious!
Come join us on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s and help us make as many as we can. We will be donating the pillows to the local oncology offices. These projects are beginner friendly, so even if you’ve never sewn before this is something you can do. We will provide the fabrics and the patterns. All you need is to bring your sewing machine.
Another way we are giving back this year, is we will be donating 10% of all sales to Susan G Komen for any breast cancer awareness items including breast cancer awareness fabric.
October Class Calendar
10/14 1:00pm - Pillowcase Class - The gift of a pillowcase, is a small gesture, but one that comforts people of all walks of life. A nice safe place to rest our head is sometimes a great respite for the trials and tribulations that hardship can bring. The cost of the class is $35.00 and will included the kit.
10/21 1:00 pm Soup Bowl Cozy for Hot + Cold and Stitched Patchwork Potholder - This are 2 super quick and easy projects, and makes a great gifts. The cost of the class is $35.00 and will includes the kit.
10/26 10:00 til 2:00 Fun Gift Bag making class. This bag will make a perfect Christmas gift. You can use fun fabrics or dress up for the Holidays. Great use for leftover quilts blocks too. The cost of the class is $40.00 and includes the kit. You will need to bring your sewing machine and your walking foot.
